Panda Report

After a nice win on the road versus the Phoenix Suns the Lakers returned home to face Boogie and the Brow, falling at home 119 – 112. The Pelicans didn’t exactly come out of the gate guns a blazing but the Lakers did themselves no favors by starting the game 0-8 from the floor to fall behind early.

The Pandas rallied late in the second half with a big run from Jordan Clarkson, Josh Hart, Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma and Julius Randle. The Lakers were down 94-74 in the 3rd quarter before a 29 -5 run. The Lakers were actually ahead 110 – 106 with under 5 minutes left in the game but were not able to hold on and get the victory. Next up for the Pandas a visit from John Wall and the Washington Wizards.

3 good things.

Welcome back Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. After sitting out a two game suspension KCP came back to the line-up and immediately provided a spark on both offense and defense. KCP scored 20 points on a very efficient 7 – 11 from the field and also had 2 steals and one block on defense.

Julius Randle played with great energy on both ends of the floor and played a key part in the big run that got the Lakers back into the game. He finished with 11 points 2 blocks, 2 rebounds and 1 steal. If he can bring this type of energy every night off the bench expect Ju-Ju’s minutes to rise.

Jordan Clarkson has been excellent off the bench to start the season. He was aggressive looking for his shot but he also acted as the primary playmaker for the second unit chipping in 5 assists.

3 Bad things

Lack of energy and effort to start the game was a huge factor in the Lakers getting down big early. It’s pretty bad to see a team as young and athletic as the Pandas come out flat every night. The team has to come out with more energy and effort to prevent falling behind big.

Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball continue to struggle with their shooting. Brandon Ingram shot 3-9 from the field and Lonzo was only 3-13 including an 0-5 stinker from three. These are probably our two most important Pandas we won’t be very good if these guys can’t make shots on a consistent basis.

Defense has been terrible to start the season through three games the Pandas are allowing 119 points. The Pandas gave up 68 points in the first half last night and allowed the Pels to shoot 56% from the field needless to say that’s nowhere near good enough.
