Cavs vs Warriors Game 3 Preview

So after two relatively exciting games in the NBA Finals LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers find themselves in a 2-0 hole heading home. LBJ has been spectacular in the first 3 quarters of both games but the 4th quarter has been reserved for bench guys and roles players as both games have been decided well before the final buzzer. So what do the Cavs have to do to get a win and make this a series? What should the Dubs do to continue their dominance?

First thing I think the Cavs must do is control the pace. Slow the game down throw it in the post to Kevin Love and LeBron eat up the shot clock and force the Dubs to take the ball out of bounds off made baskets. The Warriors are deep and are built to play at a frenetic pace for 48 minutes a night and after 7 straight trips to the finals it’s not realistic to expect LeBron James and James Jones to play at that pace without wearing down in the second half of games.

Besides controlling the pace the Cavs need to make it an ugly physical game. Hit and bump KD, Steph and Klay eveyytime they come off a screen or run through the paint. I know that isn’t what the casual fan wants to see but it’s the playoffs and the Cavs only focus should be winning and slowing these guys and mucking things up is one of the best ways to accomplish that.

J.R. Smith and Tristan Thompson need to step it up. The last two offseasons Clutch Sports has made sure the Cavs made it rain in contract negotiations and now it’s time to return the favor. Both guys played extremely well in last year’s championship round and in order to repeat the Cavs are going to need them at their best.
